Music isn't just enjoyable, it can do wonders for your health. Did you know it can:
- Help Fend Off colds. After performing singers had higher levels of salivary immunoglobulin A, a protein that defends against respiratory infections, according to a study from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University.
- Soothe Stress. People who participated in a weekly hour-long drum circle had lower stress levels, according to a study in the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship.
- Help You Get A Better Night's Sleep. Listening to relaxing music for 45 minutes before bedtime will help you drift off to sleep faster, a study in the Journal of Advanced Nursing notes. A tempo of between 40 and 72 beats per minute is the most sedating.

I have heard of hospitals that offer harpist playing music when patients are getting chemo. The patients responded by saying they feel more relax. I know that science cannot quantify things like art and music, but there must be something healing about it when it soothe the soul.
Interesting post. I'm not much of a performer but it's good to know that listening to music can help you drift off to sleep.
