Why Is World Sight Day 2008 Important?
>> October 03, 2008
World Sight Day 2008 which is coming up on October 8. World Sight Day is included in the World Health Organization's official calendar and it's aim is to raise global attention concerning the current reality of 300 million people living with blindness and vision impairments worldwide.
I personally didn't realize that 75 % of blindness cases are preventable, curable, or treatable. 75%! That's huge!
In honor of, and to help raise awareness, LensShopper.com is hosting a prize drawing competition on their site that you can enter! If you'd like to win up to 1 year's supply of free contact lenses, and you have a valid prescription from an eye care professional, you are eligible. Visit them today to learn what you can do to help and possibly win contacts for yourself for a year!

Angie, thank you for taking the time to write this great post about World Sight Day 2008. ORBIS International, a non profit global development organization dedicated to saving sight worldwide, has created a video about this year's World Sight Day theme--the ageing eye--which can be found on YouTube.
