Has A Natural Steroid Been Found?
>> December 08, 2008
Popeye apparently had it right! In a test-tube study, Rutgers researchers discovered that treating human muscle cells with a phytoecydysteroid - a compound found in spinach - increased protein synthesis by 120 percent.
Phytoecdysteroids appear to allow muscle tissue to repair itself faster, says Gorelick-Feldman, Ph.D(c). What's more, rats that consumed high amounts of the substance became stronger after just 28 days!
However, you'd have to eat huge quantities, about 2 pounds a day, to reap similar benefits. Future studies will test the effect of smaller quantities.

I have no idea about spinach and steriods. But what I do know is that it has more nutrients than lettuce, so I make an effort to use spinach in salads and sandwiches instead.
Wow. Interesting stuff. Pity that spinach has to be consumed in such huge quantities to realise the benefits listed.
I'm similar to Asithi though. I load my sandwiches up with spinach as I know it is very nutritious.
Spinach is good but steroid is not good ... spinach is very nutritious to health ...
wow.nice popeye. ..2pounds,that's a lot, but worth it,considering its benefits. I'm not used to eat just plain spinach. My mom always put something with it..
