Exercise Anywhere - Product Review and Giveaway!
>> February 18, 2009
Last night on The Biggest Loser, all but two of the teams were locked out of the gym for a week. At the weigh-in the team that lost the least weight was one of the teams that was allowed in the gym. How did the other teams manage to lose so much? They worked out outside. They were taught that a gym just isn't necessary for exercise, that you can exercise anywhere.
Along that same line, I received a set of Nuru's Exercise Anywhere knowledge cards this week to review.
How many times have you been out of town, or in a hurry, and would like a good workout, but just don't know what to do? With this set of 30 cards, focusing on six major body parts, you'll no longer have that excuse!
The cards were a little smaller than I had imagined, (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") but once I put them on the included ring, I thought their size was great because you could actually attach them to your key ring and they really wouldn't get in your way. They are about the size of a wallet photo, made of a durable, waterproof, ultra-thin stock.
The first couple of cards explain the principles of strength training, recommendations on how to develop a good, healthy, routine, how to stay motivated and there's a glossary with a few of the terms used consistently throughout the deck.
I wanted to be fair in my review, so this afternoon, in lieu of my normal workout DVDs, I decided to put on a CD of workout tunes and use the cards as my guide. I worked out my back, biceps, and chest, and even threw in a few squat thrusts (instructions are on the cards) to get my heart rate up.
Did it work? Well, my arms are quivering right now! I'm not used to chin ups, and didn't know I could do them at home until Exercise Anywhere suggested I do them on a sturdy (sturdy being a keyword here) table. Wow! I'm going to incorporate those into my weekly routine!
For my chest I did push ups, decline push ups and triceps push ups. For my back I did reverse flys, (I used my 5-pound weights for these, but as the cards suggests, you could easily substitute whatever you have handy such as water bottles or canned goods.) back extensions, and bird dogs. And for my biceps I did chin ups, as mentioned previously, and I did towel dumbbell curls.
All-in-all I felt I got a very good workout for those body parts. I don't think an advanced weight lifter would find any value in the cards, but if you are a beginner or intermediate these exercises will definitely get you in shape. And if you travel, or are on the go a lot, they would be the perfect tool to help you get in shape on the road.
My only suggestion to improve the cards would be to make tabs that stick out on the sides of the them so it would be easier to find the exercises for a specific body part. I'm going to use the post-it flags on mine to help me mark the different sections.
In addition to the Exercise cards, Nuru also makes cards to help you with Understanding Your Car, Emergency First Aid, 30 Drills & Tips to help you improve your Golf Game, and Personal Finance.

I travel a great deal and a set of these would be perfect for those times when I have a lull and can fit in some great exercise. Thanks for offering such a great giveaway!
I have a Wii Fit, but I have trouble finding room to use it. I need something that will not allow space to be an excuse.
My trainer would love fro me to get these. sure, I'm at the gym a lot, both with Boot Camp classes and personal training, as well as treadmill. But there are times when I (gasp) want to do something extra. Trying to loose weight, get healthier, etc.
This would be great when I travel!
I like the idea that you can use this anywhere... at home, behind a closed office door, in a hotel. They seem simple, requiring no set up time or large amounts of time to complete the activities. I could do a couple exercises spaced out over the day. utgal2004[at]yahoo[dot]com
get stuck at the hospital alot and would love simple or reminders and even in waiting rooms waiting for a doc to come in wouldn't mind these instead of worrying and playing with the things in the room with whoever is with me
I would like a set because our families does a lot of hiking/nature walks/park visits and these would be very handy to be able to do a couple exercises while watching the kids play or taking a small water break.
I am always going somewhere or having to be away from the house. This would indeed be very handy to carry along.
What a great idea. I am a beginner work out woman. I go to the work out area located onsite of the place I live. I would love to have something to suggest what to do. I tend to bring paper and more paper from the internet and than it is a mess. So thanks for sharing.

I just turned the big 50 and the warranty on my body must have just ended. Or a body snatcher traded out parts.
Time for me to find places I can get a better workout then I am doing so far. I need to learn how and where I can sneak in a few exercises.
I usually carry a book with me when I have a few minutes. Now i can carry this to get in better health.
Thank you for that chance.
I am trying to get back into a good exercise routine following fracturing of my tibia last May. Running is still difficult, so this would give me some variety in my other exercise pursuits.
I would like these exercise card. Quite often I don't get a chance to work out on my way home from work. These would give me a chance to work out even when it wasn't otherwise convenient.
These would be great for when I have to travel!
i am always on the go so this would come in very handy thanks for the giveaway

I'd love these since there great for going places, and I am out of shape and need to exercise more! Thanks for entering me.
I used to go to the gym, but it's hard for me now to make time for it; (I will soon tho.. they probably think I'm dead lol) I try to make time for exercise throughout the day, but it's hard. I'd love to win these cards so that I can have exercise tips wherever I go and remember to get my exercise in. I lost 40 lbs last year and I DON'T want to gain it back. :) Thank you so much for offering this giveaway! eyeslikesugar [at] gmail [dot] com
I often can't work out now because my daughter's nap schedule has changed, and she wakes up whenever I turn on the treadmill. I don't have the room for any workout DVDs, and I've been totally stumped about what to do. This sounds like something that might actually work!
I'm on the run so much and go from Virginia to Florida so often that I can't join a gym. I'd have to join two. I can't carry around exercise equipment and in the end all of the work makes me feel like it would be too difficult to work out and I just give up. I think this would be the perfect solution. Small enough to keep in my carry on and hopefully will keep me motivated. I'll have no excuses

I would love this. I am away from home quite a bit. And don't often have a chance to hit the gym, this is a great alternative.
I would love this because I can't afford the gym right now.

One of my resolutions for this year is to devote more time to exercise - hard to do in my busy life, and I think these cards would help.
I'm a bio major college student and i barely have time to think about exercise. It would be nice and handy to whip out of these card whenever my brain and body is a bit dazed, so that i can do a bit exercise and a quick lift me up.
Wow these would be so helpful to me because I am never anywhere but always somewhere else LOL. I would love to say I go to the gym but I can never find the same time everyday or even anytime to go because we are so busy these cards will give me the option and reminder to breathe and exerscise anywhere.
I am also giving away the same exercise cards on my blog this week. Stop by and enter the giveaway if you are interested.
Angie - sorry for advertising on your blog. But I figured that some of your readers might be interested in entering another drawing for them.

my daughter is a fitness freak i would love these for her :)
I have a totally sedentary job, and I need a way to get out of my chair and get a little exercise in my office every day, perhaps even while talking on the phone or working on the computer. This would probably have some great ideas for office aerobics!
I would totally love to win these . I have been struggling to get to the gym and this would make me get a little more receptive to the idea. jtrophy at aol dot com

I recently was diagnosed with type II Diabetes. I was told that I need to do some more exercise (among other things). This would be a great way to give me ideas of what to do! Thanks! lanemarinab@aol.com
I would love to win these cards because ever since I had my son on Halloween I have not been able to loose the baby weight. I cannot afford to go to the gym, and with a new born its not exactly easy to find the time. I know most of my problem is lack of motivation and that I need a good enjoyable routine. These cards would be awesome to help me exercise at home with a routine that works for the parts of me that need it.
Thanks so much for the chance!
